The students are learning all about our 4th grade routines and expectation. We continue to work together to develop an environment where everyone feels supported and confident. It is important for the students to become independent about completing their work.
Each student has a homework planner in which they write their homework. I generally post the homework on the board for them to copy. Please sign your child's planner nightly, once you know they have completed the assigned homework. The AR reading log is an assignment every single night. This counts toward your child's AR reading goal here at school. Reading nightly is important to helping your child become a better reader, just as attending his/her team practices outside of school helps him/her become a better player. In the AR Log notebook, you and your child can find instructions and a sample inside the front cover. This is a good reference for what the 4th grade teachers are expecting from the students.
We have begun our Everyday Math lessons, and the students are doing well using strategies they have learned already. We are currently in the second week of our first Reading Street unit. We are currently reading Lewis and Clark, and me, a historical fiction story told from the point of view of a dog named Seaman. As we read, we are spending lots of time developing routines and expectations for the students' work during ELA.
Last Friday was our first project-based-learning session with Mrs. Jones. We are working with the students to develop research skills as they learn about Mexico. Units on Mexico and Canada are developed based on Common Core Standards for fourth grade.
Mark your calendars for our Curriculum Night on Tuesday, September 26th. More info will be coming soon!
