I tried to make sure I took a moment to talk to families at conferences about the 4th graded initiative for students to bring their own electronic devices to school for use during specified learning times, such as using Spelling City, Accelerated Reader, and Google Classroom. I have a permission form that must be completed before students can participate. If I did not give your a form already, I apologize. Please let me know if you need a form, or if you have any questions about how the program will run in our classroom.
We have finished our first novel study of the year! The students really seemed to enjoy reading Stone Fox during our reading groups. They worked on developing their comprehension skills throughout the unit. Our next book will be The Flunking of Joshua T. Bates.
We are also continuing our work with our Reading Street curriculum. This week, we have been reading Marven of the Great North Woods.
During math, we are learning about equivalent fractions. It would be great practice if the students could practice identifying equivalent fractions in different situations at home, especially when helping you with cooking. This will give their practice real life meaning. It will also be helpful for all students to practice converting minutes to hours and hours to minutes. In addition, please working on rounding large numbers (up to the hundred thousands place) to different place values. For example, ask your child to round 574,839 to the nearest thousand, ten thousand, then hundred thousand.
Yesterday, we had a very exciting science lesson on energy. The students worked in teams to build cars that we raced in class. Ask your child how it went!
